Generator Sizing
The size that you may need for a generator depends on your needs and wants. We recommend that you figure the kind of load you hope to achieve with providing power to your home.
Do you only need the essentials? Are you looking to power everything in your house? How often does the power go off at your property? These are all things to consider when you are looking to purchase a generator.
If the power goes off occasionally, and only for a few hours, you may want to consider something on the smaller end to power your absolute essentials until the power returns. However, if your power frequently goes out, and you hope to send power to large loads like your heating ventilation system you will need to consider a larger generator.
You can begin assessing your needs by looking at the tables below.
This first table will help you get a rough idea of what sort of power supply you would need from an automatic stand-by generator.
If you are looking to get a more accurate idea of what sort of load you are hoping to power with a generator, we recommend you use the worksheet below. Click on the image below to open a window that will allow you to print the generator load calculator.
